Architects Using Math - What You Need to Know

Planners Using Math - What You Need to Know Planners arent the main experts utilizing math. As an understudy you may think about how significant arithmetic is to the field of engineering. What amount of math do design understudies concentrate in school? French modeler Odile Decq has said that its not required to be acceptable at math or science. However, in the event that you investigate the school educational programs at a few colleges, youll locate that a fundamental information on science is required for most degrees - and for most school majors. At the point when you win a four-year Bachelors Degree, the world realizes that youve considered an assortment of subjects, including science. An advanced degree is somewhat not the same as an increasingly streamlined preparing program. Furthermore, todays enrolled modeler is for sure taught. Design Schools at the Program Level While thinking about a school of design, first recall that in the United States, engineering programs are certify by NAAB, the National Architectural Accrediting Board. NAAB doesn't certify the college, so analyze the program level of the school inventory. Pick the school that is best for you by taking a gander at the courses in the program youll be becoming tied up with. One approach to begin your exploration is to utilize an internet browser and quest for engineering educational program. An educational program is a course of study, or the classes youll need to take so as to get a design degree. Looking at the course depictions of a few schools will give you a thought of how a school incorporates science into rehearsing design - colleges that are solid in building may have a methodology that is not the same as a school inside a college known for its human sciences. Here are a couple of models, direct from the school catelog. For The Cooper Union school in New York City, the Program Description sounds more rousing than the Degree Requirements, yet read both. The educational plan focuses on the significance of engineering as a humanistic control, they state in portraying their design program. In any case, at that point in the initial two years youll take courses, for example, Computer Applications and Descriptive Geometry and Calculus and Analytic Geometry and Concepts of Physics, alongside Structures I, Structures II, Structures III, and Structures IV. At The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, they need you to know the science and the workmanship. A West Coast school like the University of Southern California (USC) School of Architecture may adopt another strategy. A 160-Unit Sample Curriculum incorporates Contemporary Precalculus your first semester and Physics for Architects the subsequent semester, however it additionally incorporates Fundamentals of Design Communication and Writing and Critical Reasoning in those equivalent semesters. Conveying a visionâ -Â putting a visual thought into wordsâ -may be the most troublesome errand looked by an expert designer, and USC needs to assist you with discovering that, as well. Additionally recollect that a California school in excess of a school in another state may concentrate more on working to withstand quakes. Truth be told, USC offers Building Structures and Seismic Design directly in the second year of study, and the course depiction is this: Structure characterizes structure and space and supports gravity, sidelong, and warm loads. The course presents the four S’s required for engineering structures: Synergy, Strength, Stiffness, and Stability. Cooperative energy, a framework more noteworthy the entirety of its parts, fortifies structural targets; quality opposes breaking; solidness opposes distortion; and soundness opposes breakdown. Structures should likewise oppose bowing, shear, pressure, pressure, warm anxiety. Get familiar with the notable development, material, and arrangement of structures, just as the fundamental plan and examination apparatuses for reasonable plan. This course is pragmatic design, isn't that so? In the event that it intrigues you, look out for the Prerequisites, which are courses you need to take before you can even join to take this one. What is the fundamental information the teacher needs you to know? Contemporary Precalculus and Physics for Architects are the requirements. Passing the AREÂ ® The entirety of the activities and tests in school are not the conclusion to turning into an enlisted modeler. You likewise need to pass the Architect Registration Examination.â ® ARE 5.0 has six point regions to go before you can consider yourself a modeler. In the Practice Management part of the test youll be approached to do some business math, to Evaluate the money related prosperity of the training. In the Project Management zone, youll need to respond to inquiries regarding a tasks spending plan. This is math, as well, however perhaps not the thoughtful that alarms you out of architecture.â Turning into an authorized planner can be scary. Remember that tests are not given to rebuff understudies and experts, yet to keep up instructive and proficient norms. The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), executives of ARE, state: The ARE is intended to survey parts of design practice that influence the honesty, sufficiency, and wellbeing effect of a structure. The test additionally evaluates an architect’s obligations inside firms, for example, overseeing ventures and organizing crafted by different experts. - NCARB The Bottom Line Do proficient engineers truly utilize each one of those equations from Algebra 101? Indeed, perhaps not. In any case, they positively use math. In any case, guess what? So do little children playing with squares, adolescents figuring out how to drive, and anybody wagering on a pony race or a football match-up. Math is an instrument for deciding. Math is a language used to impart thoughts and approve suppositions. Basic reasoning, investigation, and critical thinking are on the whole aptitudes that might be identified with arithmetic. I have discovered that individuals who like to tackle riddles can do well in design, planner Nathan Kipnis told creator Lee Waldrep. Different designers persistently propose that relationship building abilities are generally significant for the fruitful expert modeler. Correspondence, tuning in, and cooperation are regularly refered to as fundamental. A major piece of correspondence is composing plainly - Maya Lins winning section for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was generally words - no math and no definite sketch. The most significant thing to recall is that everybody needs you to succeed. Educators will support you. For what reason would they need you to come up short? In the event that youre keen on design as a vocation, youre effectively inspired by arithmetic. The constructed condition is made with geometric structures, and geometry is science. Dont fear arithmetic. Grasp it. Use it. Plan with it. Police Brutality in United States - Free Essay Example

Police Brutality in America Police brutality is the use of excessive and/or unnecessary force by police when dealing with civilians. Police brutality comes in many different forms and ways with the clearest form being physical, the other forms include improper use of tasers, political repression, racial profiling, police corruption, sexual abuse, psychological intimidation, false arrests, and verbal abuse. To better understand, for example, DJ had a long day at work and drives to his house. He has a branch with a few leaves on it stuck in between the windshield wipers and the hood of his car. On his way home from work he is stopped by a police officer who asks him for his license and registration. Thinking this is just a quick stop DJ complies and gives the officer what he asked for, and asks What did I do wrong officer? The officer replies Well theres vegetation stuck to your car and I suspect that its a marijuana leaf, so I stopped you. DJ looks at the officer in disbelief and the officer walks back to his car. Thirty minutes later three more cop cars filled with officers arrive on the scene making the whole situation bigger than it is. Finally, after two and a half hours of sitting there the officers let DJ go home. This is a form of police brutality; the officer did stop him to see what was on his car but calling in more officers and wasting time wasnt at all necessary. Despite this example, police brutality has more of a history than what has been broadcasted into the news the last decade or so. Police Brutality has been around since the Industrial Revolution when the workers were harmed physically by policemen because they went on strike. Police brutality was at its peak during the Civil Rights Movement where all forms of police brutality was used to stop the protestors which included high powered water hoses to knock the protestors down, German Shepards to attack protestors, attacked the protestors with intent to kill, tear gas, etc. Since then it has calmed down just a little with a new generation being brought up, but the flames of police brutality were lit up once again. When the death of Trayvon Martin, in 2012, started to make its way across all social media platforms and makes it way onto various news stations that updated the people of America what was going and what was going to happen. After that many more cases of police brutality started to make its way onto the news and across social media over the next few years. Rodney King was one of the five other children his parents had together, but his father died at the age of forty-two leaving all the children to his wife Odessa. At 24 years old, Rodney robbed a store that belonged to a Korean in Monterey Park, California. He stole 200 dollars in cash and hit the owner. He was convicted and put behind the bars for a year(). On March 3, 1991 Rodney King and his two friends were chased by LAPD after Rodney refused to pull over after he was caught speeding. The high speed chased got intense as many other police cars got involved as well as a helicopter which was also chasing Rodney and his friends. After getting stopped they were told to get out the car, Rodneys friends listened and got arrested, Rodney refuse and when he finally got out of his car he was dragged out by officers and brutally beat Rodney King. At the same time Rodney King was getting brutally beat George Holiday recorded the entire incident. A few days later George sent the video to a television station and the clip of Rodney King getting dragged out his car and beat by police officers was broadcasted nationally for a few days. This tape was used in the trial that lasted three months, however a predominantly white jury acquitted the officers, inflaming citizens and sparking the violent 1992 Los Angeles riots(). Eventually Rodney King was awarded 3.8 million in a civil trial for the injuries he sustained from the beating. Two decades later Rodney King died in his swimming pool on June 17, 2012 in Rialto, California he was forty-seven at the time of his death. Philando Castile was born July 16, 1983 in St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated from Saint Paul Central High School in 2001 and got a job working for the Saint Paul Public School District from 2002 until his death in 2016. Castile started his career as a nutrition services assistant at Chelsea Heights Elementary School and Arlington High School, both in St. Paul, Minnesota. He then moved on to a higher position at J. J. Hill Montessori Magnet School in St. Paul in August 2014(). What led up to the shooting according to the article On July 6, 2016, Castile was pulled over as part of a traffic stop by Officers Jeronimo Yanez and Joseph Kauser in Falcon Heights, a suburb of St. Paul. According to officers, Castile and the passenger allegedly resembled suspects involved in an earlier robbery. Castile and his girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, were returning from grocery shopping earlier in the evening. He had gotten a haircut, had dinner with his sister, Allysza, and picked up Reynolds from his residence in St. Paul. Yanez walked up to the side window and requested that Castile hand over his license and proof of insurance. Castile did and told Yanez he had a gun in his possession. Moments later Officer Yanez told Castile not to take it out. Castile said he was not pulling out the gun. Yanez yelled, Dont pull it out! and pulled his own gun from his holster, striking Castile seven times at point blank range. Castile died on the scene. The aftermath of the shooting was live streamed on Facebook by his girlfriend and viewed by many as she is seen in the live stream talking to the officer who shot her boyfriend. A few days after the shooting an attorney by the mane of John Choi requested a Prompt and thorough investigation of the crime. He planned to go to trade school right after graduating. According to the article the events of case are as follows At 11:47 a.m., Wilson responded to a call about a baby with breathing problems and drove to Glenark Drive, east of Canfield Drive. About three minutes later and several blocks away, Brown was recorded on camera stealing a box of Swisher cigars and forcefully shoving a Ferguson Market clerk. Brown and his friend, Dorian Johnson, left the market at about 11:54 a.m. At 11:53, a police dispatcher reported stealing in progress at the Ferguson Market and described the suspect as a black male wearing a white T-shirt running toward QuikTrip. The suspect was reported as having stolen a box of Swisher cigars. At 11:57, the dispatch described the suspect as wearing a red St. Louis Cardinals hat, a white T-shirt, yellow socks, and khaki shorts, and that he was accompanied by another male. At 12:00 p.m., Wilson reported he was back in service and radioed units 25 and 22 to ask if they needed his assistance in searching for the suspects. S even seconds later, an unidentified officer said the suspects had disappeared. Wilson called for backup at 12:02, saying [Unit] 21. Put me on Canfield with two. And send me another car. Initially, reports of what happened next differed widely among sources and witnesses, particularly with regards to whether Brown was coming towards Wilson when the shots were actually fired. At noon on August 9, Wilson drove up to Brown and Johnson as they were walking in the middle of Canfield Drive and ordered them to move off the street. Wilson continued driving past the two men, but then backed up and stopped close to them. A struggle took place between Brown and Wilson after the former reached through the window of the police SUV, a Chevrolet Tahoe. Wilsons gun was fired twice during the struggle from inside the vehicle, with one bullet hitting Browns right hand. Brown and Johnson fled and Johnson hid behind a car. Wilson got out of the vehicle and pursued Brown. At some point, Wilson fired his gun again, while facing Brown, and hit him with at least 6 shots. Brown was unarmed and died on the street.() Michael Browns death caused fury around the nation adding fuel to the newly f ound Black Lives Matter Movement. The policeman the killed Michael Brown was put on a trail that lasted more than three months due to the Grand Jury not coming to a decision on the case. After the three months were over the Grand Jury decided not to indict the police officer. Stephon Clark was born on August 10, 1995, he graduated from Sacramento High School where he played football during his time there. Not much else is known about his early life and or life before the shooting. According the article Two officers fired a total of 20 shots at Clark on March 18. The officers were responding to a 911 call reporting someone breaking car windows in the 7500 block of 29th street. A Sacramento County Sheriffs Department helicopter also responded to the 911 call. Deputies in the helicopter reported seeing a man armed with a tool bar in a nearby backyard and began directing the ground officers to that location. Police said officers believed Clark the object was a gun and fired, fearing for their safety. No gun was found at the scene. Police said the object was a cellphone. It was found near Clarks body and taken into evidence. Each of the two officers involved in the shooting fired 10 shots, for a total of 20 shots fired, police say. The Sacramento Police Depa rtment released the body camera footage and helicopter footage three days after the shooting. Video from a Sacramento Sheriffs Department helicopter shows Clark running from a neighbors yard and leaping a fence into his grandmothers property. The deputies in the helicopter can be heard saying the suspect had broken a window on the house next door and was checking out another car in the driveway. Police body-cam videos show the police running down the driveway after Clark and taking cover at the rear edge of the building. Show me your hands! Gun, gun, gun! one of the officers can be heard shouting just before shots rang out. Californias attorney general and the police department are conducting an investigation into what happened that night.() A summarized version of what happened to Stephon Clark: Sacramento shooting of Stephon Clark happened on March 18, 2018. He was killed by two officers of the SPD or Sacramento Police Department. The SPD were looking for a person breaking windows in the area. Once they saw Clark, they deemed him to be the suspect they were looking for. They shot him when he, according to them, pulled out a gun and pointed it at them. After shooting him and killing him in the process, they realized the gun he pointed was a cell phone. The case is still live and has not found a verdict, but because of this, the large protests in Sacramento have occurred. The Too Big to Fail Problem - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 7 Words: 2152 Downloads: 3 Date added: 2017/06/26 Category Finance Essay Type Narrative essay Did you like this example? Too big to fail was a very regular term we all heard during the Great Recession of 2008, but did we truly understand the term? To understand this overused term, we must first define what it means to be a firm that is Too Big to Fail. According to Stern and Fieldman, too big to fail'(TBTF), a term describes the receipt of discretionary government support by a banks uninsured creditors who are not automatically entitled to government support. (8). Citi Group is an example of this term that easily comes to mind; the government never considered that a firm as large as them would ever be on the verge of collapse. It was only after their announcement to the US government in August of 2008 stating their bankruptcy, the government took action guaranteed this mega-firm that they would pay off their bad investments. But why would our very own government consider such action? A reasonable answer would be that the government considered the perceived dangers of letting a bank of this size collapse and the repercussions that the economy would experience if they allowed this to happen. The main concern is, how did government regulations become so lax? Why do they allow a bank to become so large and overleveraged, that if they were to fail, it would resonate throughout the global economy. What can the government do to solve this problem at hand? To understand how we fell into the Great Recession, we have understand how these firms were able to get so oversized. In 1932 Congress passed the Glass-Steagall Act; which banned commercial banks from underwriting securities. Banks were forced to choose between being commercial banks, that held deposits and made loans, and investment banks that conducted securities transactions(Crawford,128). However in November of 1999,a new regulation, supported by the banking industry, called the Gramn-Leach-Bliley Act repealed the Glass-Steagall Act.   What made Congress go back into regulations and repeal the act? In the boom of the 90s, the feeling of financial sector was that the Glass-Steagall Act hampered Americas financial companies from being competitive globally.   An ambitious CEO, Sandy Weill of Travelers Group(one of the largest insurance companies), had a dream in which his corporation would merge with Salomon Smith Barney(one of the largest investment banks at the time) and Citicorp(the largest commercial bank) to form a super conglomerate. However, at the time, this deal was illegal because the Glass-Steagal Act was still in effect. The size of Citicorp and Travelers were so big that they were able to go to Congress and demand action, and Congress folded. Weill was able to convince Alan Greenspan(Chairmen of the Federal Reserve), Paul Rubin(Secretary of Treasury), and   President Clinton to allow the merger with the expectation that Congress would repeal the Glass-Steagall Act. Citicorp and Travelers had their lobbyist push their merger so hard that the legislation, H R10, House Resolution 10, which became the Financial Services Modernization Act, was referred to as the Citi-Travelers Act on Capitol Hill(Bill Clinton). Not only was this act passed with a dominate 90-8 vote in the Senate, but also an overwhelming 362-57 vote in the House. This repeal would serve as the key corner stone that allowed bank to perform mergers of this nature, and allow them to get so oversized.   Ãƒâ€šÃ‚  Ãƒâ€šÃ‚  Ãƒâ€šÃ‚  Ãƒâ€šÃ‚  Ãƒâ€šÃ‚  Ãƒâ€šÃ‚  Ãƒâ€šÃ‚  Ãƒâ€šÃ‚  Ãƒâ€šÃ‚  Ãƒâ€šÃ‚  Ãƒâ€šÃ‚  Ãƒâ€šÃ‚  Ãƒâ€šÃ‚  Ãƒâ€šÃ‚   After the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act these new conglomerate became so large and interconnected that once the Great Recession started, the failure of one bank would mean the failure of the entire financial system. American International Group(AIG), an insurance company, is a example of this. With the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act, AIG suddenly transformed into a company with General insurance, Life insurance retirement services, Fina ncial Services, and Asset Management (Sjostrom 946). AIG was able to use premiums paid for life insurance to leverage creation of credit default swaps; A CDS is a privately negotiated contract where one party( the protection seller),in exchange for a fee, agrees to compensate another party(The protection buyer) if a specified credit event(Such as bankruptcy or failure to pay) occurs with respect to a company( the reference entity) or debt obligation(the reference obligation). CDS are used for a variety of purposes including hedging, speculation , and arbitrage (Sjostrom 948). For example, if a company like Goldman Sachs wants to hedge on mortgage defaults; they would go to AIG, and enter into a credit default swap with them. They would then pay AIG a fee upfront, and if the mortgage was to default, AIG would agree to pay the defaulted value thus limiting the risk to Goldman Sachs. Problem is rather than AIG setting aside the value, they would need to pay Goldman Sachs if the mortgag e was to default. AIG would instead use the fee they received for the credit default swap to leverage the fee into creating more credit default swaps. Goldman Sachs, viewing that they had protection on their mortgages, would go out and buy more mortgages using future interest and principles payments on those mortgages. However, once the crisis occurred, foreclosures went through the roof. AIG faced a mountain of credit default swaps that they had to pay out to. Since they were so overleveraged they didnt have enough cash on hand to pay out all the credit default swaps. If AIG defaulted, Goldman Sachs would then not receive the money they were expecting from the credit default swaps, and would also not be receive the monthly payment on the mortgage thus creating a short-fall for them as well, since mortgage were usually re-packaged and resold. An AIG default would have not only affected companies in the U.S, it would have also caused a catastrophic ripple throughout the global bankin g sector. However, AIG was deemed too big to fail and the U.S government stepped in to pay all of AIGs credit default swaps thus preventing wide spread chaos. As the chaos subsided, various economists have presented solutions to the Too Big to Fail problem, including ending securitization, lowering leverage level, enforcing more transparency, create morally defensible incentives, and breaking up companies deemed too big to fail. By ending securitization, we would face higher interest rates for borrowers but, as Cohan states If financial engineers can find a way to bundle loans into securities that are guaranteed not to lose money for investors, then securitization should continue (Cohan). However this is a pipe dream and facing the possibilities of another global recession or higher interest rates the later, should be preferred. If we enforce lower leverage levels on all actors in the financial system including banks, hedge funds, insurance companies, businesses and households t o set clear targets for maximum leverage and to ensure that none of them is able to exceed those targets. (Cohan) This will bring balance not only to Wall Street, but also to America. For far too long Americans have lived beyond their means and the growth of credit card debt is a clear example of this. If all leverage were to be scaled back the environment for future growth rather than present day payoff would be much brighter. Transparency in the financial market is also very lacking as witnessed by the Bernie Madoff scandal; in which Madoff scammed his investors out of 65 billion dollars. Wall Street firms are still not held to a high enough level of transparency to provide consumers with a true picture of a firms strength. Another big problem is how bankers are compensated for their work. Their bonuses are tied to the size and amount of deals they perform in the year and it would serve no purpose to them to be cautious in making deals. A clear solution to this is one suggested by Cohan, rather than bankers receiving all bonuses that year they put all the money into an escrow account, and wait five years, if the investment were still valuable, the banker would receive the money out of escrow, otherwise, the escrow would pay the losses that the investor incurred from the bad deal. This kind of structure could reduce the moral hazard in the current incentive system. (Cohan) This would provide bankers the incentive to perform deals that are more likely to make money for investors rather than for their own selfish purpose. Finally, the one solution that might make the most sense to the average consumer, would be to just break up companies deemed too big to fail by the government. Cohan believes that there should be a limit on how big a bank could get, we shouldnt be rewarding managers for building big companies that cant earn profits that exceed their cost of capital. And we should not require taxpayers to pay for the cost of such failures. Although all five of these steps would be necessary to prevent systemic risk it will still, also require the diligence and regulation from the federal government to avert a financial crisis weve had. The United States Government has listened to the economists and the first of the financial reform regulations had finally been passed on June 29th , 2010 . The passing of Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act incorporated many of the solution that have been mentioned above. To deal with the issues of lowering leverage levels and enforcing better transparency, the Dodd-Frank Act created a Financial Stability Oversight Council in which its made up of expert members of the financial community, headed by the Treasury Secretary and includes the Chairmen of the Federal Reserve and other government financial agencies. What this new council will do is make recommendations to the Federal Reserve for increasingly strict rules for capital, leverage, liquidity, risk management, and other requi rement as companies grow in size and complexity, with significant requirement on companies that pose risks to the financial system (US Senate). This council will make changes to regulations depending on the size and complexity of the bank and prevent too big to fail banks from getting over leveraged and investing in questionable investments. This council will also solve the issue of breaking up a bank if its deemed too large or complex, they are able to approve, with a 2/3 vote and vote of the chair, a Federal Reserve decision to require a large, complex company, to divest some of its holdings if it poses a grave threat to the financial stability of the United States- but only as a last resort. (US Senate) This gives the power to this council to essentially force a bank deemed too large, to sell some of its assets to be reduced to a more manageable size. The act also brings back some of the components of the Glass-Steagall Act in the form of the Volcker Rule, which requires regulato rs implement regulation for banks, their affiliates and holding companies, to prohibit proprietary trading, investments in and sponsorship of hedge funds and private equity funds, and to limit relationships with hedge funds, and private equity funds (US Senate). By separating savings and loan banks from proprietary trading and other risky investments, this will significantly lower the risk a bank will be willing to take. Bank used to be faced with the decision to either make very modest returns on mortgages and loans or high returns from hedge funds and proprietary trading and faced with that decision greed over takes all reasoning. On the last point of incentives, large banks have realized that the public now views incentive based bonuses very negatively, instead they are moving away from giving record bonuses every year, and instead started to double or triple salary in some cases. In the past, banks have preferred to keep salaries low and use bonuses as a way to drive performa nce. Now instead investment banks such as Credit Suisse, UBS and Morgan Stanley have also added so-called clawback provisions to bankers pay, allowing the banks to take back some pay from employees who fail to meet certain performance goals. (Werdigier) Rather than having set performance based incentives, these more flat salary increase might allow the bankers a bit of a wiggle room to make deals that are more financial sound. This Dodd-Franks act is a step in the right direction, but there is still much to do in order to prevent this from happening again. Vigilance and patience is what we need now, to rebuild and recuperate from this fiasco. There is no point in going back to the age of the Glass-Steagall Act since the complexity and size of global financial organization have grown. All the act would do now is hamper U.S firms. With these new government regulation and with good self-regulation, financial firms from this point forward should be able to maintain a leverage level where a failure of one firm, wouldnt cause a systemic collapse of the entire sector. However, greed is everlasting, and only through persistence can we prevent the financial firms from getting so close to the edge of collapse again. Don’t waste time! However, in the late ‘60s we see that steadying the economy became their main focus. Attempts at economi c diversification through industrializing the nation were made at the expense of the agricultural industry. This new push towards technology and modern machinery was consuming nearly a quarter of the national income. The government was caught between a rock and a hard place. It needed the sugar income to pay for expansion, but it had ignored agriculture which was their way to fund. Failure to put emphasis on agriculture led to the decline of sugar harvest in which their output dropped nearly in half over a couple years. Government at the time consisted of a small amount of state officials and administrators which held a monopoly over all major decisions affecting societal and economic issues. The bulk of the population had no voice in the decision-making process. Nor could they remove the officials from their positions. Fidel Castro, among other bureaucrats used the Communist Party to pursue their economic agendas. Anyone questioning their priorities was accused of being anti-revolu tionary. Cuba turned to the Soviet Union for their economic and political ideals. Socialism had failed to develop an economy capable of sustaining Cuba. There were problems with the Soviets, whom the Cubans did not always get along with. In 1968, nearly forty members of the Communist Party

I immediately became an addict tothe new world of errorlevels, internal and external commands etc. Or a program which asks you how old you are, and how many cigarettes you smoke everyday. Then it tells you if you smoke too much. These programs are not useful because they dont satisfy any of the two demands: 1) It doesnt fulfill any of my needs. 2)Its not suitable for a wider audience. Today, the list of programs I have made, satisfy in a much more professional way those simple requirements. I have made, in cooperation with a friend, a game which tests your short-term memory. There must be a thousand of those on the market today, but RecoN has a very nice graphical interface, and online help. We released the game as shareware. This means that anyone can have a copy without paying for it, but if they after 30 days chose to keep it on their computer, they must send X amount of money to a specified address. Naturally we still havent gotten any donations, but at least we know for sure, that the game has been copied to well over 250 persons, so it has satisfied some demands. So how can programming benefit me in a more practical way? Well, I made one program, which works like an alarm-clock. Its simple, but it works. The knowledge I gathered from making that program, and all the knowledge from all the other programs, will of cause be essential, if I chose to become a programmer after IB. There I will need all the experience, I can get. .

Oz Supermarket is the newly formed retail chain, which has been mainly set up at the check up points for reducing the exit queues. Moreover, it encourages customers for coming in, grabbing what they desire to buy and then leaving the store. This retail organization has embarked few significant business operations. First of all, this organization only stocks non-perishable, stationery and household goods. These are as follows: Increase in stock Variety According to the stock of this retail, this organizations only stocks the non-perishable, stationery as well as household goods. However, this limiting cost can limit the way of earning revenues for the retail organization. Therefore, this organization should enhance its stock variety as well as the number of items within the individual stocks (Tian Schwartz, 2015). Nevertheless, in this regard, this retail chain should incorporate those products into its stock, whose market demand is high. This retail organization should focus on those facts because, Oz Supermarket is completely a new retail enterprise and it is aiming to build its reputation as a retail farm as well as generate good revenue at the end (Ciravegna Brenes, 2016). Therefore, in this regard, this organization should also stock other kinds of goods which have huge demand in market such as clothes, fashion products, accessories, technical equipments, books and other products (Jia et al., 2015) . Moreover, the enhancement in the stock of this retail organization would ultimately result in increasing the customer base for this retail chain which is the ultimate goal of this company as a newly developed retail chain. Managing the Security concerns for the store and customers and reducing extra overheads Oz Supermarket should be properly take care about the security issues those can be the vital concerns for this retail organization as well as the potential customers of this retail chain. Thus, in this regard, this retail enterprise should focus managing both the security factors for the retail store and the customers of the company as well (Tolstoy, Jonsson Sharma, 2016). In case of managing the store security, it can help in avoiding the shrinkage of the inventory. Moreover, it depends on the location, products and the size of the store. Therefore, this retail chain can attach the electronic tags on its products those are sensed at the entrance of the store and exits by the sensors for the detection of theft (Kohlbacher, 2014). Moreover, this retail supermarket must have to focus more on resolving the security issues associated with the PayWave technology (da Veiga et al., 2016). It has been s een that this technology has few consequences along with its advantages. PIN code is not requested in case of the contactless transactions through PayWave technology. Thus the means of protection in this case have to face a boundary to the encryption keys formed by a terminal as well as a card (Muslimah Simatupang, 2014). In this regard, the custom terminal of the retail chain should employ the encryption keys obtained from an acquiring bank as well as a payment system. Therefore, this retail must be focused on this matter in order to enhance the security assurance for the customers of Oz supermarket as this organization is a newly developed retail chain (Prasad, 2016). However, by being focused on this fact would ultimately help the retail to overcome the few issues with the PayWave cards, which can satisfy its customers regarding their security concerns while shopping in Oz Supermarket (Dean, Fath Chen, 2014). On the other hand, this organization should not tag every item with t he RFID chip as it causes the additional overheads. Most importantly, the store absorbs this cost in the customer interests who are in rush. Therefore, Oz Supermarket should tag those items with this chip which are the most valuable and demanding products for the customers. Addressing Data Flooding Every successful reading of the tag attached with the retail items is not useful for the business purposes (Dean, Fath Chen, 2014). The huge amount of data can be evolved, which is not ultimately useful in order to manage inventory or other applications. For an instance, a consumer moving a product from one shelf to another shelf or a pallet load of articles, which passes many readers while being moved in a warehouse, are the events those do not produce data, which is meaningful to an inventory control system. Therefore, in this regard, event filtering is necessary for reducing data inflow to a meaningful depiction to move goods passing a threshold (Song Kang, 2014). Therefore, middleware should be performed while filtering from the redundant and noisy raw data to the significant processed data (Tolstoy, Jonsson Sharma, 2016). Moreover, Oz Supermarket should also utilize a RFID tag for addressing international trade concerns, which is operational within a ll of the international frequency domains. From the entire discussion made in this report, it can be stated that in spite of being a newly formed retail company, Oz Supermarket can be capable of provide worthy and proper retail services to its customers because of the implementation of advanced technologies like PayWave technology. However, this report has highlighted and demonstrated three recommendations those should be incorporated or followed while conducting its retail business operations in future. These recommending strategies would simply help this organization for creating a huge customer base and significant customer satisfaction. Suggestions to Improve Customer Service Customer Service is always about providing the customers what they want, while they want, in the best possible manner (Sharma Lambert, 2013). An organization would have a greater scope of increasing and keeping its customer base, if this business provides good customer service. Thus, from the given scenario, it can be seen that Oz supermarket has implemented the PayWave technology, PayWave card system which are one of the safest payment system for the customers. Moreover, this organization also has allowed the shopping summary stations those placed strategically throughout the stores permitting customers for viewing in detailed list of items that is in their trolley. All of these factors can significantly play huge role in providing a good customer service to its customers (Aryee et al., 2015). However, this retail chain should consider few suggestion regarding improving its customer service. In order to build a significant customer service, it is necessary for this retail organization to build a good relationship through effective communication with its customers. As the Oz Supermarket is completely new in this industry, they should try hard to recognize the common ground-like shared interests (Celuch Robinson, 2016). Moreover, this retail chain should always be concerned about the issues faced by the customers so that the issues could be resolved as early as possible. It would help the retail organization to retain the customer satisfaction factor (Krn, 2014). Most importantly, Oz Supermarket should always provide the scope of knowing this retail chain properly to its customers. Providing detailed information about Oz Supermarket can be proven to go long way as well as can also reduce the concerns with safety, trust or accessibility (Pitt et al., 2016). On the other hand, Bringing special services, knowledge as well as face-to-face interactions could help together for creating an authentic community for the customers of this organization. It could be the interactive part of the business operations of this retail chain. As Oz Supermarket is a new retail chain, thus, this retail enterprise can give special offers in order to seek the attention of the customers in terms of creating a strong customer base for this retail chain (Song Kang, 2014). This retail organization should be focused on taking the follow-up after resolving the issues encountered with the customers. Apart from that, the customers of this retail organization would feel more valued if Oz supermarket treats them as the essential members of a community (Tian Schwartz, 2015). Therefore, this organization can bring its customers together in several ways such as trade conventions, trade shows, social media, interactive websites as well as webinars. Suggestions to Improve Business Service or Operation Offerings Being a newly formed retail chain, Oz Supermarket should aim to improvise more and more its business services as well as its operation offerings (Tolstoy, Jonsson Sharma, 2016). Thus, in this regard, Oz supermarket has to focus on getting three major factors such as customer feedback, product quality review and process quality assurance. Customer Feedback Customer feedback always plays a crucial part in order to provide the right path to the organizations in terms of conducting their business operations (Muslimah Simatupang, 2014). Therefore, Oz Supermarket should always provide the scope to the customers in terms of providing feedback regarding their satisfaction factor about both the quality of the product as well as the services provided by this retail chain (da Veiga et al., 2016). Most important thing associated with this factor is that, Oz Supermarket has be very focused in conducting its business operations because any wrong step can ruin its business opportunities. Thus, in this regard, the customer feedback can provide this organization an assessment and an evaluation as well for its business operations (Dean, Fath Chen, 2014). Product Quality Review It can also be an essential and important way for improving the business service or operation offerings of Oz Supermarket (Song Kang, 2014). PQR or Product quality Review is the rolling as well as periodic quality reviews of all licensed medicinal products incorporating only products those are conducted with the goal to verify the consistency of the existing process, the appropriateness of the current specifications for both the finished and starting materials in terms of identifying product improvements and any trends (Celuch Robinson, 2016). Moreover, it can also be an effective quality improvement tool for enhancing the quality of the product. Process Quality Assurance It is such an area for Oz Supermarket that can support the delivery of the high-quality retail products by providing the store managers and staffs at all levels with proper visibility into as well as feedback on, processes and associated work products throughout the life of the project (Sharma Lambert, 2013). Therefore, the practices in process quality assurance area for this retail chain can assure that the planned processes are executed while thee practices in the area of verification process assure that the specified requirements are satisfied (da Veiga et al., 2016). These two process areas can on occasion address the similar work product but from different aspects. Thus, the retail operations of Oz supermarket should take the benefit of the overlap for minimizing duplication of effort while taking care for maintaining distinct perspectives (Tolstoy, Jonsson Sharma, 2016). Therefore, for this retail chain, the process quality assurance is very importa nt for the success of Oz Supermarket. Twelfth Knight Essays - Cross-dressing In Literature, Twelfth Night

Twelfth Knight In William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, Or What You Will many relationships are forged or sabotaged for and by the protagonists, and as a result these relationships are made comical. The use of disguise causes deception and misunderstanding which leads to love where it is not meant to be. Foolery leads the characters into inescapable traps, which causes chaos with their emotions, and finally pure physical attraction and not true love lead some characters into falsely believing that they were in love. Therefore relationships were twisted and contorted so often that comedy was bound to result. Throughout Twelfth Night deception caused confusion between many characters, but the one character who remain in the center of this confusion was Viola. The deception was caused because of her outward appearance. She was disguised as a man in order to get closer to Orsino. The confusion begins when Viola is sent to woo Orsino's love Olivia. She in turn falls in love with Viola's counterpart Cesario. Olivia's love is revealed when she sends her servant Malvolio to return a ring which Viola never gave to her. She says, Run after that same peevish messenger, The County's man. He left this ring behind him? I do I know not what, and fear to find Mine eye to great a flatterer for my mind. Fate show thy force. (actI,sc.v,310-315) This shows her love for Cesario and how she secretly lets her know. When Viola realizes what has happened she immediately realizes the love triangle which has occurred. This is apparent when she says Fortune forbid my outside have not charmed her!?What thriftless s ighs poor Olivia breathe! O time, thou must untangle this, not I. It is to hard a not for me t' untie. (act II, sc.iii, 20-40) Another instance when viola's disguise is believed and therefore causes a confusion is when she is mistaken for her brother Sebastian. Antonio who is looking after Sebastian, and when Viola got into a fight with Andrew and Toby, Antonio came to the rescue. He is arrested and begs Viola to explain to the officers that he has been protecting him all along. When Viola claims that she has never seen him. He says Will you deny me nowDo not tempt my misery, Lest that it make me so unsound a man As to upbraid you with those kindnesses That I have done for you. (actIII, sc.iv, ln.365) Viola's disguise is so believable that a man who has spent an extended period of time with her brother mistakes her for him. Immense confusion and severe consequences result from this deception. Therefore the use of disguise is a main factor in the creation of comedy. The time period in which Twelfth Night was set, foolery was commonly used for multiple tasks. Some used foolery for pleasure and entertainment, while others used it as a tool to get what they wanted. The use of foolery occurred throughout the play, many times manipulating another person. When Maria becomes angered at Malvolio she decides to use foolery as a tactic to get even. She writes a false letter from her lady Olivia confessing her love to Malvolio. The letter suggests preposterous things for him to do to win her love. Her foolery is so believable that he believes every word of it, as seen in this quote I do not now fool myself, to let imagination jade me; for every reason excites to this, that my lady loves me? Jove, I thank thee! I will smile. I will do everything that thou wilt have me. (actII,sc.iv,168-180) As a result of this letter Malvolio is tricked into doing silly and wild things which causes Olivia to think that he is mad. Therefore foolery proved to be successful, i n the sense that she got her revenge. Malvolio is involved in another case of foolery, but this time it is with the fool. After Malvolio is imprisoned for his insane acts, he begs to see the light of day. Toby belch and the Fool scheme a plan for Malvolio. In this methodical plan the Fool is to dress up as a priest and talk to Malvolio. Throughout their entire conversation Malvolio tries to convince the Fool that he

Greek Art Essays - Greek Art, Ancient Greece, Ancient Greek Art

Greek Art Essays - Greek Art, Ancient Greece, Ancient Greek Art Greek Art Greek Art Art is the creation of beauty, it was the first written language and to study art history is to study the history of civilizations and mankind. The Greeks essentially molded the world with their intelligence in art, architecture and astronomy for many. They were a culture that strived for perfection and harmony. The abstract geometric patterning that was dominant during the Geometric period is replaced by a more naturalistic style in the Archaic period which inspired Greek artists to work in techniques as diverse as gem cutting, ivory carving, jewelry making and metal working. (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 2003) Also during this time the increasing naturalistic representations of the human body was being sculpted into perfection by using the perfect blend of balance and proportion for the male and female body. They called the male the Kouros; he was considered to represent the Greek god Apollo and was always depicted nude in a contrapposto position. The female equivalent was Kore, or standing draped maiden. She unlike the male was always clothed and standing erect with feet together or sometimes with one foot to the left. The Classical period removes us from the world of Archaic rigidity and on to one in which art takes on the task of representing life, and not merely just creating tokens of life, this in turn gets the viewer more involved. This period of time comprises of two distinct periods: the early classical and the high classical. However both these periods shared the uniquely contradicting, constantly explorative, and modestly idealistic vision of life, which made the subjects of the stele, at their moment of death, all the more human to the observer. Neither the previous Archaic period, nor the following 4th century, or the preceding civilizations quite so convincingly capture for the observer the poignancy of death the way a fifth century BC stele could. The period of the 5th century B.C. is sometimes referred to as the golden age, which is the height for Greek art and civilizations; and ironically has its beginning and ending in war. ?Between the boundaries of 480 and 404 the human figure ran through a wide range of psychological nuances. ? Of these many ?nuances? there are two significant styles that are observed in art history. First there is ?the self-confidence brought about by a deep-seated certainty of the outcome of the struggle with the environment in the course of the ?severe style?, which is a characteristic of the early classical period. And then there is the resignation bought about by dashed hopes the fickleness of illusions and escapism in the ever fragile creatures of the ?rich style? ?, which can be identified in the high classical period. The stylistic differences mentioned above tend to break this so-called golden era of the 5th century B.C. into two periods (Bordman, 1985). However, ironically the one factor that combines these periods together is death, or at least monuments erected for death. The Greeks viewed death somewhat differently from the way we do. To them death freed their souls and brought true happiness: then why does their grave sculpture look so pensive and thoughtful? It is because unlike today where the dead are only represented figuratively in a sobbing angel or mournful cherub, the Greeks depicted their dead as they were in life - life which was full of uncertainties and burdens but also with simple pleasures that made it all worth while. As seen in the example of this gravestone of a little girl as she would have been in actually life. Here the little girl holds two doves, one with its beak closed to her mouth as if kissing it, the other is perched on her left hand. (fig 1) Although the Parthenon in Athens remains the supreme example of classical Greek art. In its day, it would have been embellished with numerous wall-paintings and sculptures, yet even relatively devoid of adornment it stands as an unmistakable monument to Greek artistry. ?Originally, the Parthenon's sculptures fell into three groups. (1) On the triangular pediments at either end were large-scale free-standing groups containing numerous figures of Gods and mythological scenes. (2) Along both sides were almost 100 relief?s of struggling figures including Gods, humans,
